Craig Varn picks trash up along the shore of the Withlacoochee River.

(Tallahassee) Giving back to the community is very important to the attorneys at MansonBolves. Craig Varn, an attorney in the Tallahassee office, volunteered his time during the Eco-Day Withlacoochee River clean-up at Madison Blue Springs State Park. This year, the annual event, sponsored by the National Florida Springs Alliance, National Association of Corporate Directors and Nestle Waters, was held in conjunction with National Public Lands Day.

Varn and thirty-four other volunteers participated. As a result of all their hard work, the Withlacoochee River and the park are looking immaculate! Volunteers removed about 50 pounds of trash from the Withlacoochee River, painted the pole barn and well house, repaired a hole in the roof of the bath house, installed an extra light fixture in the men’s changing room and cleaned up the grounds. They also installed no-slip treading on steps leading into the water, which will significantly reduce the chance of swimmers slipping on the steps.

After the morning clean up, volunteers enjoyed a BBQ lunch and had a chance to win door prizes. Manpower and funds are not always available to perform needed repairs and park personnel were extremely grateful for the time, effort and materials donated to improve the park.
